Shopping Secret... one of my fave Aussie brands
That brown dress a few of you have asked me where it's from… and the limoncello number, the striped midi, the printed maxi, and the sets. Hello summer!
Since the sun is FINALLY shining I thought it’s high time I start sharing some of my summer shopping secrets with you… ARGH(!) I’ve been dying to get to this!
Some of the summer brands I found last year are (in my opinion) some of my greatest finds and I really do relish summer dressing (as soon as I’ve said relish I’m now thinking BBQ 😂). I mean, I say that about every season, I’ll never not adore coats and boots, but summer is just so free and easy. Well, providing the weather is good to us.
Minimal make up, air dried hair, bare feet and slip on everything - dresses, elasticated waists, loose shirts, ballet flats and sandals. And in my world a naked Mabel (if you’ve ever had to dress a stiff whippet this takes minutes off your getting out the house time!).
When I decided to start this Substack last summer, whilst I was on our road trip break, which I still must write about on here! It was a bit of an emotional time looking back.
All planned, and something we’d talked about doing for years. But, in hindsight, maybe it wasn’t the best timing going at the height of burnout and just after announcing the ‘pause’ (now long pause) of Studio B (my online store that I’d put blood, sweat and tears into for the past 6 years - if you change blood to money that is very accurate).
Anyway! Back to the sentence I started…
When I decided to start this Substack last summer (which then launched in December, after some time away and some time planning) I was so excited to share with you MY SUNNY SUMMER SECRETS. And this is one of them!
They’re an Aussie brand and I think SO reasonably priced - on average dresses are around £90. Prices vary slightly depending on the fabric / finishes, and most fabrics are cotton or linen (a tick from me).
Shipping is all good too, £25 for UK, which to be honest I don’t think is too bad for shipping from Australia - you could always combine orders with a friend, or you know order a few things at once if you’re a fan (and you know you’ll wear them for more than one summer, always my rule with very summery / holiday items).
Some of you may recognise this dress (below) from late last summer as I did buy it back then. The stripes, the colour combo, the sleeves, the linen, the open back!
And I do always bloody love a shirt-n-shorts summer set, which of course Aussie brands do so well.
And this dress I’ve been dreaming of since last summer. Only reason I didn’t go for it was for that lemon jumpsuit I already have (if you’ve seen the post with my 10 favourite outfits from 2023).
Want to know this beauty of a brand?
With summer in mind can I just add a reminder to ALWAYS wear SPF!
Naturally, I ignored the significance of this in my teens and twenties; the two-week trip to Magaluf aged 18, burning on the balcony in factor 8 oil, springs to mind. I’m pale, I burn, rather than tan. Also, two weeks in Magaluf, what the eff were we thinking! We came back looking worse than when we went (if anyone remembers these days all I’ll say is BCM club nights.)
Now I wear SPF 50 on my face all year round, yep deep dark winter too. As all beauty experts advise us to do. Saying that, I’m not a beauty expert so I can’t write you a whole article on facial SPF’s, but I’ve used this one for years (and just bought my husband his own too, not that he’d admit to this).
It’s cheap (under £12), lasts ages, it’s thin (not thick and creamy), absorbs super quick, glides on, is perfect under make-up, leaves no shine and no white marks whatsoever (I mean rub it in, again referring to the husband who just slaps it on, he may get the odd white mark).
*Oh, and you can get it in your Saino’s online shop where it’s £9, another bonus (yep, I am mid 30’s, if this did not give it away).
Sorry, THE BRAND is…
