Shopping Secret... I just discovered this bag brand (on first glance I thought it was Celine!)
A GIANT Celine like tote, in multiple colour options, for under £300... SOLD! Happy show yourself some love day!
If anyone has (or should I say hasn’t) seen Succession you’ll know of the character Tom and his distaste for ‘ludicrously capacious’ bags, I’ve got to say this put me off big bags! 😂
Actually, ever since Covid I just haven’t really used a bag so much, discovering the wonder of pockets! When all you did was walk (walk, walk, walk) and only needed keys and a phone. To be fair some days even now I don’t need much more.
BUT you know, years have gone by and I used to be such a bag gal!
My first ‘proper job’ was working in buying & merchandising at Mulberry, which I loved at the time, around the ‘Alexa’ era!
Prior to this I’d spent most my time selling, and fawning over, handbags, as I’d worked at the Mulberry store in Manchester whilst I was at *Uni. Yes we polished them (some may say stroked), yes we gave some names, yes we bought some on generous staff discount… spending months living off tinned tuna to do so (true story). But hey, you had an Alexa!
*Uni - where I studied for a degree in Fashion Marketing at Manchester Met, which I’ll be honest was pointless. It’s been working that has got me anywhere. It was even by working at the Mulberry store that I became aware of a buying internship at head office in London (nothing to do with my Uni, who constantly advertised internships at catalogue company J.D Williams as if it were the be all and end all… looked like my idea of hell, sorry 😂).
Post Mulberry I then worked at Matches (bags were involved but I was on contemporary womenswear), then went back to handbags at Anya Hindmarch. Next came my own venture with Studio B, and now this!
Anyway, BAGS! The time has come when I do actually need a decent size bag (yes Tom, for my ‘subway shoes and lunch pail’, another Succession comment for those who don’t know). What is wrong with bringing a packed lunch can I ask? Have you seen the price of a stale coffee shop sarnie these days, I’d rather spend my 6 quid on a Substack subscription 😉
And now, at mid 30’s, I do prioritise comfier footwear choices (in a good way!) but have in the past been the girl who swaps into ballet flats for the tube - tube travellers swapping into trainers with boring grey / black suits, or worse pencil skirts, I do not ever condone mind!
But really I need a decent size bag for my laptop, notebook, brolly / hat / sunglasses (sometimes all three) and general dog paraphernalia (ahh, true life!).
Okay turns out I love writing and my little stories go on and on don’t they! BACK TO THE BAG!
They come in multiple amazing colours and dopamine duo’s (two colour combos), they’re available with or without an internal zip top, and come in three sizes (small, medium and large/wide - a spectacularly capacious option!). Plus, the material is GENIUS… you may have jumped on it before as a kid, any guesses?
STURDY. WATERPROOF. FLEXIBLE.
I saw one of these bags at the weekend (and I mean just one, this was all they had left!) at a small but perfectly formed retail spot within the grounds of a very fancy hotel (I’ll do you a review on here). Christ, I do love a little curated on site shop like this, also museum gift shops, don’t ever let me near one.
At first glance I thought it was a giant Celine tote and expected a £3k+ price tag, but NO! I am delighted to tell you this big bag was £350.
