Everything I wore in Formentera
With a little island knowledge sprinkled in 🌞
Ciao!
I’m home, it’s raining, I’ve had a covid like cold for a week and I did NOT win Taylor Swift tickets for tonight in Amsterdam as I had strongly manifested I would (apologies to anyone I tagged in this comp).
Only thing getting me through is seeing Kylie next weekend WOW WOW WOW (sorry, but I cannot wait!) and reminiscing on last week’s holiday looks. Sigh. Why does it already feel like a month ago we were there.
I do feel like I excel at summer holiday dressing mind, if I do say so myself 😂 it’s the fun, freedom, frivolity of it! And the slight tan helps.
And maybe it’s as I’m feeling my happiest… which is a bit sad really when being away on summer holidays usually takes up such a small % of our year. Sorry, sorry, back to positivity (and I realise we are very lucky to have a holiday in the first place).
On that note, my god holiday’s are expensive now though aren’t they.
Well, it just so happens our favourite place seems to be anyway (in our early twenties we used to go a £77 a week apartment in Portugal. Which wasn’t as bad as that sounds!). But we’ve been bypassing Ibiza and going to our favourite Formentera for the last 7 years in a row now - minus one covid year.
We didn’t make it there in 2020, but did drive to France, close to Gordes, instead, which I would highly recommend and 100% do again.
The overnight stop over at a French guesthouse still remains one of the best meals of my life, cooked by host Marie, shared round a (questionably socially distanced) dining table with two other couples, with not one shared language between us. Part of the experience!
Okay, I’ll stop waffling on and get to ZEE OUTFITS!
TRAVEL
I always go comfy but never wear a trackie, it’s just not me, and I like to be strategic and wear something I’ll actually wear again. And my heaviest shoes. I am the carry on luggage!
Red Skirt | Massimo Dutti £69.95 - it’s been in here before and you’ll see I rewore it in a few looks over the ten days. I love the shape, I love the colour, I love it has pockets!
Hand Embroidered Shirt | £220 - Aha ONE OF MY SECRETS! Paid Subscribers this is coming up further below for you.
I bought this end of last summer; they were so hard to get, released in very limited monthly drops, so I didn’t manage to succeed until September. But, this year they have a couple of small stockists too (actually, to my surprise one of them happened to be in Formentera!).
** Same same items you’ll see on repeat in these looks:
White Cat Eye Sunnies - Celine - Bought September 2022 from Sunglasses Hut, very randomly in sale! This classic Celine style NEVER go on sale - if you love them here full price at Net. Or, a GREAT DUPE pair from Le Specs, in sale here for £44 (I’m now strongly considering purchasing as a back up / less precious beach pair).
**I was once told don’t waste your hard earned cash on designer sunglasses, they’re mostly all made by the same supplier (since brands usually license this out) and not anything special material / craftsmanship wise. You’re just buying the designer brand name.
Black Chunky Buckle Sandals - MM6 Maison Margiela - This is their third summer, I wear them none-stop! Bought in Matches sale at the time, May 2022 (thank you order history) - slightly similar pair here. Or, I like these. Ooo, or for another season these, oh you’ve made me look now!
Gold Hoops - Big or Small - Catch Rhys - Always my go-to-wear-for-life-sea-shower-sweat-rain-or-shine. Yes, they’re proper gold (but SO light!), you can get them wet, zero tarnish. Proper good.
Anklets, Rainbow Bead Necklaces - (unless mentioned otherwise) Anni Lu - I’ve had mine years as I used to stock the brand, but a couple they still make - small 🌈 necklace here and thin mutli-bead anklet here, although I like this new one, fiesta shells!
I’ve mentioned in here a few weeks ago, in this jam-packed edit below (why do I keep mentioning food in phrases, waffles, jam…), that I often rewear holiday clothes year after year.
Part of the beauty for me is getting excited about reviving those pieces you remembered you loved, but really only wear in the hottest of hot (so limited UK wear then, especially this year so far!).
So! There’s loads of options in the below similar to what I wear on sunny summer holidays. And this outfit round up of what I wore this holiday hopefully gives you some inspo for styling / putting looks together / ways to wear a hero piece (that red skirt features heavily you’ll soon see).
BEACH DAY
All of these are pieces are last years or older actually, but I seemed to be rather enjoying a red/pink or brown palette this holiday, so pulled this beachy boho look together from my suitcase.
*Some bits you can still get and I’ve found you an alternative for the shell shirt.
Tiger Skirt | Rixo £215 - I’ve had this years from when I used to stock the brand in the early days of Studio B (former online store days). Rixo now have it available in leopard. The skirt is the Georgia style if you want to try resale for this. I relegated mine to beachwear as it had a small fault with a tiny hole in the side seam, so I couldn’t sell it!
Bikini | Hunza G £185 - Bought last year, hands down the best stretchy supportive swimwear I own, I don’t know how but the one size thing really works! I have this lime green style too (£165) that I must have had over 4 years now.
*Only niggle, it ain’t quick drying fabric I find. I also am keen to try You Swim but didn’t splash out this year on any new swimwear (since it’s rarely worn most the year!).
Shell Shirt | Charity Shop £5 - Best fiver I’ve ever spent! This is it’s third summer and people always want to know where he’s from!
The shelly shirt had the labels cut out when I bought it but someone told me they had it too, so I can TELL YOU where it’s from to try resale or I have a bit of a fancier alternative…
